Americans love their dogs, and it’s estimated that as many as 75 million of them live with owners and families across the United States. While the vast majority of them are well-behaved and friendly, there are instances that arise that create terror and serious harm. Unfortunately, that appears to be what occurred over the weekend when an eight-year-old boy was seriously injured in a Deerfield Beach dog bite attack.

According to the authorities, this Deerfield Beach dog bite attack occurred on Sunday when the boy was riding his bicycle near 300 SE 1st Terrace, not far from where he and his family live. Suddenly, he was attacked by what is believed to be a pit bull. The boy managed to make it to a friend’s home where an adult at the resident beat the dog back. The boy suffered a broken arm and needed at least 30 stitches to his face and other areas of his body to close wounds opened in the attack. The dog was captured and taken to a shelter.

Dog Bite Attack Statistics

First, we’d like to express our support for the little boy and his family as he recovers from this Deerfield Beach dog bite attack. We hope that he recovers quickly from the harm he has suffered both physically and emotionally. In addition, this attack will now become part of the overall statistics regarding dog bite attacks across the United States. Every year, approximately 800,000 people require a trip to the emergency room because of an attack and injuries suffered from dog bites.

Florida Serious Injury Lawyers

If the owner of the dog is identified and it’s decided that he or she was at fault for allowing the dog to run loose before this attack, it could lead to the filing of a Florida personal injury lawsuit by the family of the little boy who was injured. If such a case is filed and it’s successful, it could lead to an award of damages that compensates the family for their medical costs and other losses.

If you or someone you love has been injured in a dog bite attack, you need to seek the help of Florida serious injury lawyers who have been holding those responsible for this type of harm accountable for many years. Contact Bernstein & Maryanoff today to schedule a free initial consultation.

Ironically, during the US Postal Service’s Dog Bite Prevention Week, a woman and one of her dogs were viciously attacked by two pit bulls while walking by their property Wednesday. The woman was seriously injured, and investigators are looking into the issue in terms of criminal liability. The fate of the dogs who attacked the passers-by remains undetermined.

According to the Sun-Sentinel:

“The pit bulls’ attack occurred at about 6 p.m. Wednesday along the 500 block of Victoria Terrace, according to Kailen Gonzalez, 25, and her brother Carlos Gonzalez, 28.

The Gonzalez siblings were walking their three dogs when the pit bulls charged out of a backyard, they said.

“There was no mercy,” said Carlos Gonzalez, whose T-shirt and shorts were stained in blood at the scene of the attack. “They were just attacking, attacking.”

Kailen Gonzalez was trying to protect Bella, her Silky terrier, when one of the pit bulls bit her on the face, Carlos Gonzalez said.

By the time the attack ended, Bella was dead and Milo, Kailen’s Jack Russell terrier, was seriously injured, Carlos Gonzalez said.”

Gonzalez will require plastic surgery to repair the puncture wounds on her face. While the issues regarding criminal liability and the fate of the pit bulls has not yet been determined, the owner of the pit bulls could face civil liability depending on the rest of the facts of the situation.
