Tamarac Hit-and-Run Accident Seriously Injured Pedestrian

Most of us who have spent any time behind the wheel of a vehicle understand that when a city bus stops and drops off passengers, it’s reasonable to expect that pedestrians will soon be looking to cross the road.  Unfortunately, it’s possible that one unidentified driver did not foresee this probability, as a woman was seriously injured in a Tamarac pedestrian accident yesterday when she was run down after getting off of a bus.  The driver is unidentified because he or she fled the scene after the crash, making this another Florida hit-and-run accident.

According to police, this fatal Tamarac pedestrian accident occurred yesterday afternoon at the 4000 block of Commercial Boulevard when an 84-year-old woman got off of a bus and started to cross the street.  A driver in what is believed to be a Chevrolet sedan ran down the woman and fled the scene afterward.  The woman, whose name was not released pending notification of family members, was rushed to a nearby hospital where she remains in critical condition.

Florida Pedestrian Accident Statistics

First, we’d like to extend our thoughts and hopes that the woman who was run down is able to recover from her injuries and get back on her feet at some point soon.  Secondly, this incident will only add to the overall statistics regarding Florida pedestrian accidents.  Every year, more than 8,000 such accidents occur, leading to more than 7,500 injuries and more than 500 deaths. In addition, approximately 3,300 Florida hit-and-run accidents occur on an annual basis.

Florida Personal Injury Lawyers

The fact that a description of the vehicle involved was available will only raise hopes that the driver will ultimately be apprehended.  If or when that occurs, the driver could not only face substantial criminal liability, but also civil liability in the form of a Florida personal injury lawsuit.  If such a claim was successful, the woman could be awarded damages to compensate her for medical costs and for her pain and suffering.
