Parents trust their children with day care professionals so that they can go about their business. The safety and well-being of their children is supposed to be all but ensured by day care center staff members, but there are times when something occurs that cannot be the fault of those watching these children. Such a rare circumstance arose this morning when a child was injured after a woman drove into a day care facility in Margate.
According to the Sun-Sentinel:
“A boy was taken to the hospital with minor injuries after a van crashed into his day care center Wednesday morning, authorities said.
A mother had just dropped off her child at KinderCare Learning Center, at 3225 Holiday Springs Blvd., when she backed her van into the building, Margate Fire Rescue Capt. Jeff Gary said.
The van went through a wall and injured a boy who was inside, he said.
“He was visibly hurt with dust all over him,” said Antonia Marin, 36, who was inside the building dropping her daughter off when the crash happened.
The van driver stepped on the accelerator instead of the brake, Marin said, and crashed into Marin’s daughter’s classroom.”
Fortunately, the child was not seriously injured, as the situation could have resulted in much more tragic circumstances.
