Small, private planes are a popular choice for transportation around Florida, as there are countless islands and other destinations nearby that are generally easy to access with this mode of transportation. However, there are risks involved with flying in such a transport, and as is always the case with airplanes, when something goes wrong the results can be tragic. Such appears to be the case with a recent crash of a private plane near the Bahamas that was headed to Fort Lauderdale.
According to the Palm Beach Post:
“One person was killed and at least two others are believed to be dead after a single-engine plane piloted by a Naples man crashed near the Bahamas en route to Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport, authorities said Monday.
A body was pulled from the water Sunday evening near the wreckage off the northeast coast of Bimini, said Joseph Albury, deputy director of the Bahamas Department of Civil Aviation. The person’s identity was not immediately available.
The plane’s pilot and owner, David Howell, of Naples, didn’t make any distress calls to Bahamian authorities, Albury said.
“He didn’t communicate to anyone that he was having any problems,” Albury said.
The plane was seen going down about 10 miles northeast of Bimini at 4:50 p.m., he said.”
Unfortunately, it always takes a lot of time for investigations of plane crashes to reach completion, especially when the crash occurs over water. For now, no one seems to know if the crash was a result of pilot error or because of a mechanical problem or defect with the plane. If you have lost someone you love in a plane crash, you need the help of Fort Lauderdale personal injury lawyers who have the experience and skill necessary to sort through these complicated scenarios in order to hold those responsible for a loss accountable.
