Pedestrians are completely exposed to moving vehicles when they make their way from place to place, and they are also completely dependent on the ability and willingness of drivers of vehicles to follow the relevant laws. These laws include right-of-way statutes, and when they are broken or disobeyed people can be seriously hurt or killed. One woman paid dearly for some sort of mistake when she was hit by a car yesterday, but luckily she survived with serious head injuries.
According to the Sun-Sentinel:
“A pedestrian suffered head injuries when she was hit by a car and slammed against the windshield after stepping into traffic on State Road 7, according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office.
Marie Belizaire, 50, of Hallandale Beach, was taken to Broward General Medical Center and was expected to survive. The driver who struck her, Sephora Rene, 23, of Fort Lauderdale, stayed at the scene, officials said.
The crash happened about 4:30 p.m. Monday in unincorporated Broward County near Fort Lauderdale, on State Road 7 south of Riverland Road, officials said.
Belizaire stepped off a median and into traffic, where Rene’s 2007 Toyota Yaris hit her, authorities said. The impact shattered the windshield.”
Authorities mentioned that an investigation is ongoing and that criminal charges remain a possibility.
