Bicyclist Killed by Ford Sedan

Those who ride bicycles tend to understand the risks involved with sharing the road with much larger vehicles, and despite the obvious disparity in size between the two modes of transportation, every second matters in terms of decisions and circumstances regardless of the size of the vehicle involved.  Tragically, a bicyclist in Fort Lauderdale was killed as a result of at least one mistake last night after being struck by a Ford Taurus.

According to the Sun-Sentinel:

“Police say a bicyclist fatally struck by a car Wednesday evening on East Commercial Boulevard had fallen from his bike before he was run over.

The incident happened at the intersection at Northeast 18th Avenue about 4:30 p.m., Fort Lauerdale Fire-Rescue spokesman Matt Little said.

The bicyclist, whose name has not been released, was attempting to cross Commercial Boulevard when he fell in front of a 1998 Ford Taurus, which was stopped at the intersection. When the Taurus proceeded to go through the intersection, it ran over the bicyclist, who was still on the ground, police said.

Rescue workers took the bicyclist to North Broward Medical Center in Deerfield Beach, where he later died, Little said. The driver of the Taurus remained on the scene.”

Police continue to investigate the facts surrounding the incident, and no fault has been assigned as of yet.  However, if you or someone you love has been harmed in a collision with a vehicle, you need the help of Fort Lauderdale accident lawyers who know how to fight for the rights of the injured.  Contact Bernstein & Maryanoff today to schedule a free initial consultation.
