Accident Lawyers, Personal Injury

Bicycles and cars share the roads, and while there are laws that tend to govern this situation, the likelihood of tragic accidents only rises when the roads are crowded with both types of drivers. Additionally, when crashes occur, it’s obvious that bicyclists are at a tremendous disadvantage given their smaller size, slower speeds and the exposure of their drivers. Unfortunately, that reality may have played out again this morning in Fort Lauderdale.

According to the Miami Herald:

“Fort Lauderdale police are investigating a crash Thursday morning involving a Toyota Scion and a bicyclist in the 2700 block of Davie Boulevard in Fort Lauderdale.

The crash happened before 9 a.m. when a man riding on a red, mid-size bicycle collided with the Scion, said police spokesman Sgt. Patrick Hart.

Hart said the bicyclist was not wearing a helmet and was taken to Broward General Hospital in critical condition.

Details about the crash remained sketchy early Thursday morning, but details at the scene showed that the Scion was likely heading south on Northwest 27th Avenue and making a left-hand turn onto Davie Boulevard when the car collided with the bicycle.”

Police seemed pessimistic that the bicyclist would pull through and survive, and it will take some time to sort through the investigation and to lay out the details of how this accident occurred.
