Riding a bicycle along the beach is one of those pastimes that’s attractive to just about anyone in any place. However, doing so just after midnight in a city known for its nightlife can be quite dangerous given the elements that exist on the roads during that time. Tragically, one person riding his bike in the early moments of this morning paid the ultimate price for encountering that danger, as he was killed by a vehicle.
According to the Sun-Sentinel:
“A bicyclist riding along the beach was killed this morning in a collision with a car.
It happened about 12:17 a.m. in the 1100 block of North A1A.
Police this afternoon have not released the identity of the bicyclist because they are trying to first notify his family. After the crash, the bicyclist was taken to Broward General Medical Center, where he died soon after, police said.
Police identified the vehicle’s driver as Melinda O’Donnell.
Police are treating the investigation as a DUI case and say charges are pending against O’Donnell.”
The article goes on to state that anyone who has information to offer in regards to this case should come forward and provide it. In terms of how the criminal prosecution will proceed, investigators will surely provide details as they gather more evidence regarding what led to this crash. In the meantime, one person has lost his life as a result of this situation, and that will never change.
