People mostly understand the need to drive defensively, as doing so will only minimize the chance that an auto accident will occur. However, there are times when exercising even the utmost in defensiveness will not avoid crashes that can lead to serious injuries. Unfortunately, a woman who was driving her vehicle found this out firsthand as a suspect fleeing police slammed into her. She was reportedly seriously injured.
According to the Sun-Sentinel:
“The affidavit gave this account:
The driver of the Jeep Cherokee that Bryant’s fleeing vehicle struck, a woman in her 60s, sustained serious injuries — possibly including a punctured lung — in the 5:20 p.m. “T-bone” style crash.
The pursuit came after a woman flagged down a deputy about 5 p.m. at a plaza at Midway Road and South 25th Street and reported a physical altercation between a man and a woman behind the plaza. The woman, she said, was trying to get away by removing her shirt, which the man had grabbed. The man told the woman to “get in the car.” They reportedly headed south on St. James Drive in a gray SUV.
Bryant, of Lauderdale Lakes, told investigators he fled from the deputy because he was angry, and he also admitted running red lights, the affidavit said. He was arrested on three felony and two misdemeanor charges following the incident. Bryant was released from prison in February and is listed as a known gang member, according to the affidavit.”
